FAQ
What are Dead Bait Solutions Bait Salt and Brine used for?
Our Bait Salt and Brine solutions are designed to stiffen and preserve your dead bait, making it more durable, easier to handle, and ensuring it stays on the hook longer. This preservation process helps you get more strikes and keep your bait in prime condition for extended periods.
How do I properly use the Dead Bait Solutions Bait Salt?
For best results, apply a generous coating of the Bait Salt, ensuring all surfaces are covered. Place the bait in a tray with proper drainage and let it sit for 2-3 hours (or longer for better results) in a cooler or refrigerator. The salt draws out moisture, firms the bait, and keeps them from washing out during a long troll.
How do I properly use the Dead Bait Solutions Brine?
Simply mix the Brine solution with water following the instructions on the bottle: use about a half bottle per 5 gallons of water. Soak your dead bait in the solution for at least 2-3 hours. The brine solution is designed to quickly penetrate the bait, adding a protective layer and firmness.
What is the difference between the Bait Salt and the Brine?
Our Bait Salt is a dry mix primarily used for drawing out moisture from the bait over a longer period, resulting in a firm, "tanned" bait. Our Brine is a liquid solution used for soaking. It provides faster preparation and often includes proprietary additives to enhance the bait's appeal and firmness.
Can I use your products on any type of dead bait?
Yes, our products are highly effective on most popular dead baits, including:
-
Clams, Mullet, Mackerel, Shrimp, Herring, Chicken Livers, or any bait you want to firm up and have long-lasting fishability.
Can I save and reuse bait I've treated with a Dead Bait Solutions curing product?
Absolutely! The primary benefit of using our brining or salting powders is the preservation and toughening of the bait. This curing process makes your baits highly durable, ideal for saving and reusing on multiple trips. You've already done the hard work of preservation—don't let that investment go to waste!
What is the best way to prepare my leftover cured bait for the freezer?
Drain off all excess liquid or residual dry salt/brine mix immediately after the trip. Pat the baits dry if they feel wet. For best results (and maximum longevity), we strongly recommend vacuum sealing your cured baits in small, trip-sized portions. If you don't have a vacuum sealer, use high-quality, heavy-duty freezer bags and press out as much air as possible before sealing.
Can I use Dead Bait Solutions brining and salting products on my freshwater baits.
The science behind our curing products—drawing out moisture to toughen and preserve the bait—works equally well on freshwater species. Our products are perfect for preparing your shiners, fatheads, suckers, shad, chicken livers or other cut baits for targets like Catfish, Pike, Musky, or Walleye.
